It’s true love #MWTease from #crime #thriller #Carnivora

Happy Wednesday, and thanks again to Angelica Dawson for organizing the MidWeekTeases.

This week’s tease comes from my WIP crime thriller Carnivora, which got a new, cool cover made yesterday! 🙂

In this scene, Luz misses her imprisoned lover.

Tequila glass in hand, Luz closed the door, staggered to her small, sparsely furnished bedroom, and turned the light on. Squinting from the sudden luminosity, she faced the poster-sized, black and white photograph in a glass frame hanging above her desk.

“Hey, handsome!”

Tomor stood by his seventh-floor suite window, overlooking the part of the city that his gang ruled. Standing majestic in true crime lord style, arms crossed over a large chest. His black mustang mane slightly to a side, half his sharp features in the shade and the other half reflecting daylight. Long eyelashes, an eagle nose, high cheek bones, and a pointy chin. Just as she’d pressed the button to take the picture, he’d turned to look at her, dark hawk eyes gleaming and a knowing smile lifting the corners of his mouth. Strong and beautiful as an Indian warrior.

She was so thankful she’d been able to capture this precise moment on film; the last thing she had of him. That and the silver ring he gave her, with a turquoise stone encrusted in the metal. She still wore it.

No one had seen the portrait. She’d uploaded private documents and photographs to a secret cloud before he was caught. Weeks after being put on the Witness Protection Program, she ordered a huge print of her favorite picture.

Every day, she talked to him, told him about his daughter Billie, and asked how he was doing in jail. What were his living conditions, how did he make the time pass, and how did he handle the imprisonment?

“I miss you, sweetheart,” she whispered, swaying on her feet.

She wanted to caress his cheek and feel the manly stubble grazing inside her palm. She mimicked the movement in the air between them, following the contour of his profile.

“There, right there, you have a dimple.” She traced his chin and pointed to the small indentation in the middle, imagining his eyes widening with interest, black pupils telling her so many things.

If she asked, What? he would reply with a grin, I’m thinkin’ of the things I wanna do to you, his smile revealing a row of white teeth, surprisingly perfect for a man who’d grown up on the street.

Then he would bend to kiss her. Not a soft, gentle kiss. He would suck on her lower lip until she kissed him back with an equal hunger and let him in. Their teeth would clash and their tongues play. It was always erotic, lighting an instant fire in her lower stomach, a need to glue herself to his body, a want to be invaded in the deepest part of her while inhaling his intoxicating masculine scent.

“It’s love, you know.” She brought the harsh booze to her trembling lips and swallowed to the last drop. “True love.” Tears threatened to fill her eyes.

Again, she traced his profile. From his neck to the wide, bulging shoulders, strong muscles playing underneath his shirt. She imagined flattering his hard chest and playfully pinching its nipples. The tease always made him flinch. She smiled before approaching his lips again and demanding another kiss. Her hand wandered down his abs, snuck inside his pants, and grabbed a handful of crotch. His warm cock hardened to full length.

But no, that was in the past, idiot.

“Oooh,” she moaned, and took an unsteady step back. “I’ll never know what that is like anymore. Never…”

Her chest tightened. She put the glass to her lips.

Not a drop.

No relief, no comfort. She was all alone with her hurt, had no friends, no family to confide in. And Billie was too small to understand what was going on, that Luz was slowly slipping down a nasty, glistening slide into the unknown.
